Santa Cruz Motel Owners File For Bankruptcy:
The owners of Santa Cruz motels who have struggled in the last few years for the unpaid taxes have filed bankruptcy. Manuben Patel, owner of the Torch Lite Inn and Motel Santa Cruz filed personal bankruptcy. Her daughter Sabrina Patel who is the owner of the Cypress Tree Inn in Monterey filed bankruptcy on May 12. A hearing has been scheduled for Monday before U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Stephen L. Johnson in San Jose. It looks like the Patels are going to seek the permission to run their motels.
Attorney W. Austin Cooper, a Sacramento lawyer will be representing the Patels. Cooper said "The city moves on with the collection action, recording liens and interfering with business and operation of the motels; they had to file bankruptcy".
